The initial Tolmie Sports were school sports held at Wombat (the earlier name for Tolmie) and Toombullup. Later public sports were held at Mahaikah and then the public sports at Tolmie carried on this tradition.
The first "Courier" newspaper report of the School Picnic Sports held at Wombat was in 1888.
The programme of events and entertainment has not varied a great deal over the past 100 years. The popular events include foot racing, wood chopping and horse events. In 1906, the dummy race and tilting at the ring were also on the programme. Obstacle races and Tug of War have also been included.
The 130th Tolmie Sports will be held on February 13th, 2016.
Set amongst towering eucalypts, the Sports Ground is green and cool even on those hot summer days, and is a wonderful place to enjoy a family picnic whilst watching or taking part in the annual Sports Day. There will be plenty of food stalls and a bar.
The Tolmie Sports is generously supported by local businesses of Tolmie and Mansfield and all profits are returned to the community.
