The Bendigo Bank North East Victoria Community Bank Branches are committed to supporting the ongoing development of their community’s wellbeing through programs that make a difference.

As part of their continued work to foster positive mental health within each of our communities, they will be hosting The Resilience Project’s ‘Discovering Resilience’ presentation on Wednesday March 17th at 6.30pm.

The Resilience Project explores evidence-based approaches to building resilience, in order to develop and sustain positive mental health.

Their highly engaging hour-long presentation will outline Resilience strategies, Gratitude, Empathy (kindness) and Mindfulness, discussing simple ways to practice these in your daily life.

The session will be presented by Co-Founder of The Resilience Project – Hugh van Cuylenburg. Hugh is a bestselling author, co-host of the popular podcast, The Imperfects and has over 15 years’ experience educating primary and secondary school students and elite sport clubs and athletes in the practice of GEM and building Resilience.

The highlight of Hugh’s teaching career was the year he spent in the far north of India volunteering and living at an underprivileged school in the Himalayas. It was here that he discovered resilience in its purest form. Inspired by this experience Hugh returned to Melbourne and commenced working on his own program for schools, and ‘The Resilience Project’ was born.

In 2015, the National Rugby League asked Hugh to run workshops at every club in the competition. Since then, he has worked with the Australian Cricket Team, the Australian Netball Team, the Australian Women’s Soccer Team, The Jillaroos and 10 AFL teams. Beyond the team environment, Hugh has been lucky enough to work one on one with individuals such as Steve Smith, Dustin Martin and Billy Slater. He currently works closely with the Port Adelaide Football Club.

Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity. It is a necessary skill for coping with life’s inevitable obstacles and one of the key ingredients to success.

Having resilience minimises the effect that negative, stressful situations can have on us. These skills allow us to face challenges, learn from them and apply these skills so we can live a healthy life.
