Maintenance at Tolmie Recreation Reserve supported by $9000 grant

Tolmie recreation reserveMuch-needed maintenance will ensure the Tolmie Recreation Reserve remains a hub for the local community, says Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan.
The Tolmie Recreation Reserve Maintenance Project, worth $22,000, will be delivered thanks to the community’s work with Mansfield Shire Council and a $9,000 grant from round three of the Commonwealth Stronger Communities Program.
“Congratulations to the local community, led by committee member Linda Terry, who have worked actively with Council to get the project done,” Ms McGowan said.
The works will include repairs to the storage facility located in the original stable buildings to replace rotting posts; and painting of the exterior of the hall and community kitchen.
“These much-needed works will ensure the preservation of this invaluable community asset,” Ms McGowan said.
“The reserve and its buildings provide a location for community group meetings, markets, gatherings and events. Most famously, the Reserve is the location of the annual Tolmie Sports, which will be held on 10th February 2018. This event has run continuously since 1886 and this will be the 132nd year.
“I am delighted to announce the success of this grant, alongside Linda Terry; Mansfield Mayor, Cr Paul Volkering, Cr Marg Attley; and Community Development Team Leader Kirsten Lingard.”
